Stella Jean and The Hand of Fashion
As the month of fashion weeks comes to an end in Paris, I am delighted to unveil the second edition of The Hand of Fashion, published by Black Magazine and the Ethical Fashion Initiative.
The Hand of Fashion continues to celebrate the people part of the Ethical Fashion Initiative’s network in an effort to showcase and support the ethical fashion agenda.
In this second edition, Burkina Faso takes central stage with a fashion editorial piece in the cotton farming town of Bama and features explaining the art of handwoven cotton textiles. The magazine unveils the new partnership with an Ethiopian tannery working hard to build a more sustainable leather industry. Key industry players including Orsola de Castro and Floriane de Saint Pierre share their thoughts on why the future of fashion is sustainable. As we continue to support fashion from and made in Africa, this edition showcases several emerging fashion designers, challenging the perceptions of the continent.
I encourage you to share and spread the word of responsible and honestly crafted fashion.
On the cover of The Hand of Fashion and inside is a feature on the designer Stella Jean. I had the privalege to attend Stella’s show in Milan a couple of weeks ago and see first hand the way Stella incorporate her Haitian roots into her collections. Stella works with EFI to produce accessories with local Haitian artisans and the results are absolutely stunning. Here are some of my behind the scenes photos from her show at Milan Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2015…
