As many of my friends and readers know, I am Co-Hosting Schmancy 2014. The annual fundraiser for Calgary’s Glenbow Museum, the event that started 3 years ago and is going stronger than ever this year!
Last year our amazing marketing committee came up with the pre-event to Schmancy, called “Schmancy Style” after being ask by friends “What are we supposed to wear to Schmancy?”. What better way to show people what to wear than by throwing a raucous fashion show sponsored by Holt RenfrewandSophia Models!?! Schmancy 2012, Schmancy Style 2013 and Schmancy 2013 all sold-out! Schmancystyle was a huge success and has become bigger and better than last year. We are having Schmancy Style in Belgo Brasserie again, with a Holt Renfrew Sponsored Fashion show again, but we have added to the venue and will be showcasing 8 amazing local leather designers in a second fashion show in the evening of Thursday January 30, 2014 (7pm). We chose to theme this evening in leather to coincide with the opening of the Worn to be Wild: The Black Leather Jacket Exhibition opening February 6, 2014 at the Glenbow Museum.
The leather designer are: Bano eeMee, Kat Marks, Farlee Mowat, Gabriel Moody, Eric Goodwin, Brenda Dolphin, Marina Ortman and Malika Rajani.

This years Schmancy, has the most exciting and anticipated feature presenter yet…drum roll please… Bryan Adams. Yes, “Everything I do, I do it for you” Bryan Adams!!! I was so thrilled when it was officially announced that Bryan Adam’s was our presenter this year. The first CD I ever bought was Bryan Adams. In the early 90’s I listened to his album on repeat until is was worn out and began skipping. When I started studying photography in university I fell in-love with his portraits. I am over the moon that I will be hearing him speak about his photography in less than a month at Schmancy. There is a reason why Maclean’s Magazine named Schmancy one of the Top Ten Power Parties in Canada, it is an event not to be missed.
Tickets to Schamncy 2014 are $250 and include a one year membership to the Glenbow Museum.
Our committee members have been working around the clock to make Schmancy Style and Schmancy 2014 better than ever. I am grateful to have worked with very talented and generous people who are like minded about the future of the Arts in Calgary. Through financial contributions and by allowing a broad group of people to engage with the Museum in new ways, both events support Glenbow in it’s vision of more people experiencing art and culture more often.
