PARK x Vine Styles Kensington Present the art work of Stephen Ferris
Everything is better with wine, friends, food and art. Vine Styles, a new bespoke wine (and beer) shop, has partnered with local arts organization PARK to create an opportunity for emerging local artists to show their work.
Last night, artist Stephen Ferris, a self-taught Edmontonian artist revealed his series of geometic mixed media pieces on canvas and wood box frames. The art opening was paired with different wine carried at Vine Styles as well as an elaborate selection of charcuterie from Vine Styles complementary next door neighbour Winebar Kensington. The event was a great way for artists, local businesses and young professionals to all come together in one space to enchant their senses in optical and culinary delights. It has become increasingly difficult for emerging artists to gain exposure for their work in Calgary. As the city grows, so does the exhibition competition, and with copious amounts of new graduates coming out of ACAD and University of Calgary’s art department there needs to be more businesses like Vine Styles providing these opportunities to surfacing artists.
Vine Styles motto is “wine done different”. Vine Styles is interested in creating an experience for their customers unlike any other. It’s refreshing to see a relatively new local business take such an active role in the local arts scene by partnering with an organization like PARK who has like-minded goals in this city. PARK, which stands for Promoting Artists and Redefining Kulture is a Calgary non-profit arts organization geared to finding emerging fashion designers and artists of all disciplines to provide platforms to showcase their talent. By local businesses encouraging creative cultivation, the culture in this city will thrive and stay put rather than seeking opportunities elsewhere, adding to Calgary’s abundance.
Stephen Ferris’s artwork will be on display at Vine Styles Kensington for the fall of 2014.
Special thanks go to Nuit Blanche Calgary, for community support of this event.
