The 70’s cowboy meets early 90’s grunge meets the far east for a ménage à trois on the MM6 Maison Martin Margiela Runway. The unconventional cuts and rendition of classic coats and blouses always represent the rebels iconic uniform of the brand. We saw obi belts in this collection on top of oversized silk jackets and cotton dress shirts. Quilted embroidered silk vests, suede vests, patent leather, patchwork on denim, bandana tops, oversize boyfriend crop jeans, tassels and tied strappy bows. This collection was all over the map, and somehow it works together in some fun way.
Deconstruction is an important statement in the brand of Maison Martin Margiela and it is seen most apparently this season in look 5 where the translucent layer overtop of the slip dress serves as a blueprint for the garments form, but still allows you to see the female silhouette underneath.
We saw geisha elevated platform sandals held to the feet with swollen stiff white or black shoelaces tied around the ankle. The top of the platform has the translucent plastic Maison Martin Margiela loves to incorporate in their footwear. It says to the world- I may be fashion conscious and edgy, but I am still grounded.
