KO Review of HOUSE
House in its Canadian debut is presented by Theatre Junction and Springboard Performance’s Fluid Festival. House is created by Sharon Eyal and Gal Behar of L-E-V. L-E-V (“heart” in Hebrew) is a captivating new Israeli conceptual dance company, fueled by light, sound, music, fashion and art- colliding to create an exciting sensational experience for the audience unlike any other. This is hands down one of the most unusual dance performances you will get to see in Calgary, or perhaps any other city in the world for that matter. Calgary is very lucky to have House here this week, don’t miss out on this unique experience to be wildly entertained!
Clad in second skin-tight body suits, the sexually charged dancers move with intense animalistic energy to the rhythm of techno beats originally scored by L-E-V’s own Ori Lichitik.
Lichtik is a multifaceted musician, drummer and creative DJ. One of the founding fathers of the techno scene in Israel, he has created, produced and spinned musical productions, techno raves and various other music and performance events since 1996.
House was originally commissioned by the Batsheva Dance Company, where Eyal danced from 1990 until 2008 and began choreographing within the framework of the company’s Batsheva Dancers Create project. Eyal served as Associate Artistic Director of Batsheva between 2003-2004, and House Choreographer of the company between 2005-2012. Last year Eyal launched L-E-V with her long-time collaborator Behar.
“…far from a cozy haven, this house throbs with a rave’s raw, bright energy” –TheNew York Times
