KO Review of Advanced Style
Advanced Style documents New York City’s mature fashionistas by Ari Seth Cohen, a street style photographer turned blogger. Cohen spent a lot of time with his grandma growing up, and became an admirer of her and her friends style, spawning the blog Advanced Stylewhere he shoots seniors of New Yorks with impecable style.
Calgary International Film Festival first screened Advanced Style in September 2014. The screening was so popular CIFF had to add an additional screening to satisfy all the people who couldn’t get in to the first screening.
Just the same way Cohen’s portraits capture the essence of the women in them, so does the documentary Advanced Style. Seven women are introduced to the audience all over 60 years old. They explain their personal style, what growing older means to them and tell a little about their lives. The film has a great flow and crisp message… beauty has no age. This is one of those films you can walk away from with a smile on your face.
Advanced Style will be screening at the Globe Cinema this Friday at 7pm in Calgary, so don’t miss your opportunity to take your Valentine to a film much more than 50 Shades of Grey… grey hairs that is 😉 It’s a colorful film anyone would love!
