Eurasian futurism came out in full form this Spring/Summer Ready-to Wear collection at 3.1 Phillip Lim. What a beautiful direction to come from last years heavy contrast with knee length skirts, boxy big silhouettes blending with pastels of yellow, lilac and green. This seasons builds on those features of last years collection, and moves towards Memoirs of a Geisha meets the 5th Element.
It is obvious that the American Asian (Chinese roots) in Phillip Lim came out to play on this season’s runway. There was an impressive fusion between the silks, satins, and cotton blends that create an unbelievable avant garde style this collection.
The cut outs and exposed midriffs emphasized the karate belt waist wraps. A cutting edge evolved spin on traditional Chinese Cheongsam fabrics and wrapped ruqun inspired kimono style jackets.
The models aesthetic was once again fresh faces, but with pulled back hair that looked like they maybe have just survived a caribbean hurricane. Relaxed expressions of the models contrast the frantic hair style. The collection is serious but is also fun.
What stood out the most was the incredible footwear collection accompanying the clothes. There were 5 different peep-toed sandals made of leather, suede and patent leather of assorted terrestrial colors.
