“TheVan Gogh Museum Editionbrings Vincent’s art closer to those who love his art so deeply and profoundly”- Willem van Gogh

Growing up I had a small print of “The artist’s bedroom” byVincent van Goghin my own bedroom. That specific painting has always been the most intimate artwork from all my studies in art history.Vincent van Gogh’sstories are notorious and his masterpieces spectacular even by contemporary art standards.

In a letter to his brother Theo on Sunday December 3, 1882 Vincent wrote “ What I wrote to you in my last letter about a plan for making prints for the people is something to which I hope you’ll give some thought one day. I don’t have a fixed plan about this myself yet…But I don’t doubt  the possibility of doing something like this, nor its usefulness. Nor can I doubt that people can be found whose heart would be in it. In short, I believe it could be done in such a way that no one would need regret having taken part.”

I have seenVincent van Goghpaintings in person before, In Munich, London, New York, Chicago and LA, but this past weekend was the first time in Edmonton. For the first time ever with the help of an incredible new technology and extended time hand crafting called “reliefography”,Museum Editionsof nine of van Gogh’s masterpieces are available to own in their original frames just as they are in theVan Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. The edition sizes are small, there are only 260 of each of the nine masterpieces.

I had the pleasure of touring theMuseum Editionsite inSouthgate Centrein Edmonton with none other thanTheo van Gogh’sgreat grandson,Willem van Gogh.Willemwalked me through The Almond Blossom (1890), The Harvest (1888), Wheatfield Under Thunderclouds (1890), Boulevard De Clichy (1887), Sunflowers (1889), The Bedroom (1888), Fishing Boats on the Beach at Les Saintes-Maries-de-le-mer (1888), Landscape at Twilight (1890) and Undergrowth (1889). This was a once in a lifetime experience, to hear stories from the great artistVincent van Gogh’sblood relative about what these paintings mean to the family after so much time has past, and their joy to sharevan Gogh’swork with the world.

The exhibition will be up inSouthgate Centre Mallin Edmonton until November 15, 2015. It is a tremendous opportunity to own your ownvan Gogh Museum Editionor to see the masterpieces ofvan Goghup close and personal. There is no partitions between you and the collection. This is the first time I was able to get so close to see all the incredible details in the artist’s work, which Museums would never be able to allow with the originals. The brush strokes and impasto of the oil paint with all the finely replicated craclay are done with astounding perfection.

Being able to purchase a limited numbered masterpieces in the limit number of 260 the owner will have a hand delivered custom made case for the work with anti-counterfeit protection and official certification from the van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. The cases themselves are spectacular and look like something out of a James Bond film. Each masterpiece has a custom made frame just as the original would have, and the back of the artwork has every detail of authenticity. These 260 limitedvan Gogh Museum Editionsare not only an extraordinary solid investment, but a prosperous keepsake to be passed onto future generations of art collectors to be enjoyed as the originals have been throughout the past century in thevan Goghfamily.
