PARKLUXE 2013
Last night was #PARKLUXE13. PARKLUXE is a fashion show and art exhibition showcasing local designers and professional artists who share a common, high-end target market. PARKLUXE is designed to connect Calgary fashion and art lovers with sophisticated local designers and artists who are making an impact outside of our city limits and throughout Canada and North America. This year’s PARKLUXE featured seven designers: Nicole Campre, Anne B. Accessories, Mallory Urbanovich, Tanya Taylor, Lauren Bagliore, Paul Hardy and Laura Siegel. The art installation this year was by Kirk Dunkley M.F.A., called Magnitude of Order.
Kirk’s installation Magnitude of Order was made specifically for PARKLUXE and contained 5,000 feet of ball chain. The large cube occupied 1000 cubic feet and the small cube occupied 216 cubic feet. They were made with 192 feet of aircraft aluminum.”The perpetual movement of light allow us to perceive time and progression. This sensitivity forces us to feel rhythms and synchronizes us to our world. Our biological, mental, and physical tempos come in circadian ebbs and flows, which are directly in concert with the Earth’s endless journey around the sun. Working with light technologies including projection and laser, I experiment with the perception of light, movement, space and time, and create sculpture inspired by its phenomenal nature. “Magnitude of Order” is an articulation of movement, space and time. It is an exploration of materiality and technological presence, left to the whims of natural forces.” –Kirk Dunkley
